Mimi Durand Caroe 

Mimi Durand Caroe   was born in New York City, New York in the 1960s. From an early age, she displayed a natural artistic talent and demonstrated a keen interest in design, drawing and painting that she still pursues. 

 

At the age of ten, Mimi designed sets for playhouse productions and began an apprentice under the renowned artist and master craftsman, Priscilla Manning Porter. Ms. Porter, Plumb Hill Studio, Washington, Connecticut, is one of the East's best-known artists in fused glass and originated the unique process known as Weed Ash, a process where plant materials are fused between two sheets of glass and an ashen replica of the plant is retained. Ms. Porters's work is displayed in many outlets including the Smithsonian Museum and commission work includes the stained glass windows for Tiffany and Company, New York and Bonwit Teller, 5th Avenue. 

 

As a young, ten-year-old apprentice at Plumb Hill Studio, Mimi's work was shown at the Washington Art Association. Under Ms.Porter, Mimi flourished in the creative and imaginative environment at Plumb Hill and advanced from apprentice to studio artist, practicing there for 12 years. 

 

Mimi Furthered her artistic studies under Arthur Getz. Getz is best known as a long-time New Yorker magazine illustrator but always pursued his love of "serious" painting, successfully producing and exhibiting cityscapes and landscapes in a wide variety of mediums and styles.

 

Mimi's paintings are held by serval private collections and her exhibits included: Citibank Bank Center, Solo Exhibit, Connecticut; Washington Art Association, Connecticut; Jekyll Island Museum Club, Ga; Aiken Center for the Arts, Member Show, South Carolina. She has recently completed full illustrations for Marti Healy's book, Walking With Dogs, as well as completed a collection of art for a private art collector. Mimi's work is currently available at several Aiken retailers including the Aiken Center for the Arts, the Aiken Visitor's Center, Unique Expressions, 3 Monkeys and various area dining establishments. 

 

A descendant of Asher B. Durand, who is acknowledged as both the foremost Ameria landscape painter of the early-to-mid 1800s and the principal painter in the Hudson River School Style, Mimi lives in Aiken with her husband, Bill Inman and their three children, Brooke, Mimi, and William. The family attends First Presbyterian Church in downtown Aiken.
